Indivisible-RISE Newburyport (I-RISE) is a fully registered chapter of Indivisible, the leading national Resistance organization. This is an important election year, and our sustained hard work is needed for real action to flip Congress, governors, and state legislatures from Red to Blue, and work specific issues to reverse the damage of Trump's agenda.Our focus is on political action, following the Indivisible Guide. Issue- and action-specific working groups, including our Sister District Project group and Swing Left group, are organized and facilitated by volunteer coordinators from among our members who are passionate about those issues. These groups update I-RISE monthly. We are proactively seeking out other organizations, as well as local Indivisible chapters including Essex County #6, Greater Haverhill, and Andover, to aggregate and amplify our efforts. Our tightly-run meetings on the third Tuesday of the month identify, facilitate, and report on actions. The real work is done outside of the meetings, by I-RISE and its working groups.In January, we launched the weekly Friday Action Hour, from 4 to 5 pm at Commune Cafe on Pleasant Street and open to all on a drop-in basis. The Action Hour is organized with tools for specific activities such as writing get-out-the-vote postcards and texting to support progressive issues and candidates, in and out of state, and serves as a useful gathering point for working groups.The I-RISE public Facebook The existing I-RISE Facebook Discussion Group continues as our discussion-based, lightly moderated group, open to members by permission of the administrators, and also to direct people to the I-RISE Facebook page for actions. A note on posting to the page: We live in "eye-rolling" times, (okay, "gut-wrenching" times). That said, the purpose of I-RISE is to offer information that helps people develop their own informative views. Please refrain from posting things that confirm our outrage rather than offering a road map to better political conditions. We are here to get responsible, forward-thinking people elected here in MA. and across the country. Please focus on the kinds of people you want to see in office instead of the president 's latest outrageous comment or action.
