We are a group of about 50 women who want to contribute to a more equitable, democratic and caring community and country. We range from political novices to life-long activists and share a desire to be well-informed and civically engaged. We are a chapter of the national Indivisible organization, which gives us additional resources and a national presence. The “SOS” in our name stands for Speaking Out Sanely. In the past year, we’ve focused on get-out-the-vote campaigns, flipping the Senate, getting Trump out of office, holding the House and supporting the Navajo Nation. Many prestigious speakers have joined us, including Sen. Ben Ray Lujan, U.S. Representatives Deb Haaland and Teresa Leger Fernandez, numerous state legislators and candidates for office, as well as key advocates for the environment, criminal justice, reproductive and immigrant rights, gun control and more. During the state legislative session, we’ve formed teams to work on bills important to our group and advocated for their passage. We participate in public demonstrations when it’s safe to do so and regularly schedule time for social connection.
