MISSION STATEMENT Indivisible Rivertowns (IR) is a consortium of Action Groups from Hastings north to Ossining, NY. We use the principles of the Indivisible Guide to resist the Trump agenda and its threat to our democracy. We have a centralized Steering Committee that provides structure and programming, and support, and are an affiliate of Indivisible Westchester. Despite these organizational layers, the Action Groups are autonomous and are the primary force in our movement. We are patriots who believe the strength of our country lies in its Constitution. We honor the separation of church and state, the checks and balances of our branches of government, and the democratic ideal of a government of, by and for the people. We know that we are one country, indivisible, and seek liberty and justice for all—regardless of race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, or disability. Our structure: 1) The IR Steering Committee provides support to the Action Group Coordinators and to the general membership. We identify political action items for group advocacy; seek out community allies; run general meetings and events; provide research and education; support the Coordinators; and maintain this Facebook group as a community forum. 2) The Action Groups comprise Hastings, Ardsley/Hartsdale/Greenburgh, Dobbs/Irvington, Tarrytown (A, B, C and D), Sleepy Hollow, and Briarcliff/Ossining. They are run by Coordinators, who are responsible for engaging and building membership, identifying action items within their local purview, and alerting IR as to their progress and needs. 3) Membership functions at two basic levels. The Facebook group is open to all who share our goals—to our best efforts, Trump supporters and trolls are not admitted. Those who want more involvement can submit personal information (town, phone, email address) to become part of their local Action Group. Our methods: 1) As an Indivisible group, our work focuses on motivating our elected officials, from the local level to Washington, DC. Our communication with elected officials takes many forms, the primary ones being phone calls, rallies, town halls, in-person meetings, mail, and petitions. 2) Initiatives are posted to the general membership via Facebook, and to the Action Groups via weekly emails from the Coordinators. The weekly emails always contain a Call to Action intended to maximize our influence through Rivertowns-wide coordinated effort. 3) We support those in and seeking office whose agenda complements our own. We support these officials with our voices, our votes, and our fundraising efforts. 4) We actively work against those office holders whose agenda we find contrary to our values and democratic goals. 5) We support good governance initiatives, such as ethics and voter reforms. This includes voter registration and education, and get-out-the-vote efforts. Email: IndivRivertowns@gmail.com Twitter: @IndivRivertowns
