http://www.occupytucson.org General Assembly, every Saturday at 10 AM, in the new Global Justice Center (formerly the Stardust Lounge), located at: 225 E 26th St (26th St just West of 4th Ave in South Tucson). Occupy Tucson was created in support of Occupy Wall Street in New York City, USA, and sister demonstrations in the UK, France, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, New Zealand and other countries around the world, and in cooperation with OccupyTogether.org. Check out that web page! Over 1200 cities around the world participated starting Oct 15, and the movement is growing rapidly. The Tucson General Assembly of over 200 people decided by consensus to begin the occupation at Armory Park Oct 15. The occupation has continued since then, with campers receiving nightly citations from the City of Tucson Police Department. The court can levy fines up to $2500 per ticket. Please 'like' this Facebook page to receive regular updates. The act of continuously occupying public places 24 hours-a-day, such as public parks, is an important symbolic expression meant to symbolize the around-the-clock oppression of the 99% that has gone on for far too long, and symbolizes our grievances that have been continuously ignored for far too long. Our symbolic act will continue until the conditions causing our need to speak out have ceased. Here is a list of concerns published by the NY General Assembly occupying Wall St: 'They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.” 'They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.” 'They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt. 'They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.” They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts.' 'They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.” 'They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.” 'They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.” 'They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.” 'They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments.” *These grievances are not all inclusive - Nycga 13,138 families in Pima County in 2010 bought houses they couldn’t afford and failed to pay their mortgages. Every month, 900 families receive notices from Pima County that their homes will be sold at auction and that they will be evicted. That’s a few thousand people per month set adrift to take their chances in the “poorest major city in the Sunbelt.” Occupy Tucson will make a stand for those who have lost their homes, are in jeopardy of losing their homes, or have never been fortunate enough to have a home. A list of demands has not been put forth officially by Occupy Tucson, but the overall grievance is against Large Corporations, Banks, and Government. Occupy Tucson, much like Occupy Wallstreet and Occupy Together, seeks a complete restructuring of the legislative and corporate system.
