As a coalition of labor and community groups, Oregon Strong Voice: Southern Oregon advocates for policies that create a more just society.
Oregon Strong Voice is a statewide network of regional alliances between labor unions and community-based organizations.
We work together to maximize our collective power at the grassroots level so that we can build a stronger Oregon.
In today’s tough political and economic environment, labor groups and community organizations are forced to do more with less while fending off attacks on our values. Nationwide, we see a flawed notion of democracy: a system where wealthy people, corporations, and special interests fund elections and buy legislation that favors their interests. A group of dedicated progressive activists have a different notion for how things should work. It is this reality that brings us all together to create a movement in southern Oregon that represents local families both in the workplace and in the community. A coalition of community and labor organizations have come together to build a people-powered movement dedicated to creating an economy and democracy for the rest of us.
The name of our coalition is Oregon Strong Voice: Southern Oregon. It is made up of local organizations that work together strategically. As the local chapter of statewide movement, we advocate for a stable, thriving economy that works for all of us, a democracy that works for everyday citizens, and policies that create a more just society. We defend social and economic justice, fight for fairness and opportunity, and protect access to services and resources that families depend on to survive, thrive, and have something to pass on to the next generation.
A strong, broad coalition is strategic for all member organizations because we all represent families who live and work in southern Oregon. To help implement our strategy for advancing a progressive vision in southern Oregon, the coalition has the support of numerous statewide and national organizations. Together, we are able to address a variety of issues that impact our constituents, making us relevant to those we seek to organize and represent. Our combined resources give us the muscle to push for needed changes, the flexibility to respond effectively to a rapidly changing political and economic reality, and the allies we need to fend off coordinated attacks from opposition groups. Our experiences have shown that we can overcome very real barriers to cooperation by focusing on common values and building strong cross-organization relationships among the people involved.
